About Find a Pharmacy

What is Find a Pharmacy?

Find a Pharmacy is a free, open-data pharmacy finder for England. It answers one question quickly: where is the nearest open pharmacy right now?

Why does it exist?

NHS pharmacy opening hours, especially on bank holidays and late nights, are scattered across multiple sources and often out of date. Google Maps doesn’t know which pharmacies are allocated to an out-of-hours rota. NHS.uk shows standard hours but not bank-holiday cover. Find a Pharmacy fills this gap.

How it works

We combine three data sources:

  • The NHSBSA pharmaceutical services contractors dataset (10,500+ pharmacies, updated monthly)
  • Individual pharmacy pages on NHS.uk (opening hours, services, accessibility info, updated weekly)
  • Bank-holiday rota documents published by Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) before each bank holiday; these override the standard hours

Bank holiday accuracy

Find a Pharmacy cross-references ICB-published rotas to show which pharmacies are actually allocated to cover each bank holiday, not just NHS defaults. If a pharmacy isn’t on a rota, we conservatively show it as closed rather than guess.

Progressive Web App

Find a Pharmacy is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can add it to your home screen and, once loaded, use it offline to view previously searched results.
