What is Find a Pharmacy?

Find a Pharmacy is a free, open-data pharmacy finder covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It answers one question quickly: where is the nearest open pharmacy right now?

Why does it exist?

NHS pharmacy opening hours, especially on bank holidays and late nights, are scattered across multiple sources and often out of date. Google Maps doesn’t know which pharmacies are allocated to an out-of-hours rota. NHS.uk shows standard hours but not bank-holiday cover. Find a Pharmacy fills this gap.

How it works

We combine several authoritative data sources:

• The NHSBSA pharmaceutical services contractors dataset for England (10,400+ pharmacies, updated monthly)
• Public Health Scotland Dispenser Location Contact Details for Scottish community pharmacies (1,240+ pharmacies, updated monthly)
• Google Maps via Apify for Wales: because no public NHS contractor list exists for Welsh pharmacies, Welsh listings come from Google's business directory and are clearly marked as such (730+ pharmacies)
• The Business Services Organisation (BSO) Northern Ireland monthly dispensing-by-contractor dataset, published on OpenDataNI under a Creative Commons Attribution licence, for Northern Irish community pharmacies (500+ pharmacies, updated monthly)
• Individual pharmacy pages on NHS.uk (opening hours, services, accessibility info, updated weekly)
• Google Maps via Apify for ratings, websites, phone numbers and opening hours where the NHS sources are silent

Bank holiday accuracy

Bank-holiday opening hours vary by pharmacy. If a pharmacy does not publish bank-holiday hours, we conservatively show it as closed rather than guess. Always call ahead before travelling.

Find a Pharmacy is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can add it to your home screen and, once loaded, use it offline to view previously searched results.
